Just a seperate thread to notify you about our weekly COD2 nights, the new rotation and server settings. PLEASE help us out, INSTALL COD2 and JOIN the game, at least as much as you can on our COD2 nights, but of course also at any other time if possible! We need YOUR help, yes you!

• Capture The Flag

  • Time limit: 12

Other settings:

• All in-map effects and sounds are back (e.g. snow, fire)

A special thanks to @Thunder and @Ardens for making this all happen! Again, this is just the beginning and these changes only will not bring this server back to life. We need people to join in in order for that to happen! See you guys in game!

@Guarnere What do you think how most of the players find servers, gametracker or ingame server browser or some other way?

@Blade I think most people find it via Gametracker. Had a guy today who found the server via the ingame browser as well. But GameTracker is really important. That's why we organize the COD2 nights: if we could get the server so full so that we can show up on the 1st page of all Call of Duty 2 servers, we have done a good job! If there are only an average of 8 people all the time, you are not going to reach the top.

As you said, some players probably go ingame and search servers that have players and low ping. Our biggest difference from other servers is classic COD2.
Because of that, maybe it would be better to change name slightly to something like this:
Classic CoD2! =[JFF]= TDM/DM/CTF Cracked
All they can see now is

For game tracker there will be no differenc, but in browser it will be significant imo

Hmm yes I saw that too, no idea why that happens. Might be a good idea to change the server that way indeed. Maybe an admin can chime in on why this happens? I'm also getting 'Awaiting Key Code Authorization' when connecting, does this mean that the server is not 'cracked'?

Maybe master server has defined max amount of characters per server name and this =[]= takes more space?

EDIT: oh wait, it's also probably due to the color codes... So yeah, it's up to the admins

But then again, it's always been like that, so I guess not many people use the internal server list either

Temporary fixed this by setting hostname to this:

^1=[JFF]= ^3Classic CoD2! TDM/DM/CTF ^1Cracked

The max amount of characters is 19, this included carets ("^"), numbers and spaces.

Listing now shows "=[JFF]= Classic"

I assume this change needs to be made to the startup parameters to be permanent.

I think it is a problem in the rotation and effeck & sounds. I suggest removing them. And I propose changes in the rotation.

Suggestion Maps:

• Port,
• Borisovka,
• Tripoli,
• Shipment,
• Somewhere in Africa,
• Nosickar,
• GOB Eulogy,
• Desertville,
• Anzio,
• PowCamp,
• Toujane Rain,
• Eraplace,
• Tuscany...

If you only remove the effects, all of these maps can be good games. By the way, I do not approve all of these maps. I just give you a suggestion.

Guys, please. Let's not jump to conclusions after only 2 days of playing with these new settings and rotations. If we do that, we are going to make the same mistake as before: implementing to many subsequent changes without giving the current server changes some time to brew.

It's impossible to find the right server settings for everyone, we NEED to try SOMETHING. The current changes are there to let this be the 'VANILLA' JFF server again, like what it's supposed to be. And it's only right to evaluate the current settings after a couple of weeks of play. Otherwise it's like a performing a study with a group size of 10 and saying you found something 'significant' (sorry, I'm an academic).

The WHOLE goal of bringing more people to the server is to find out what people think, based on that we can make decisions. So let's focus on that for now, and re-evaluate later, OK?

Effect and sounds ON:



About:

• There are sound in background and effect. It is very nice for lovers of extra detail.
• It's hard to hear enemy voices.
• In some places your vision is limited.
• If you do not have a powerful graphic card, you are experiencing a FPS drop.
• There are burning noises in cars and tanks.

Effect and sounds OFF:



About:

• No sound from background. For this reason, you can hear the sounds of your enemies comfortably.
• Your vision will increase because the effects are not used.
• Low-system computer users, the game can be played comfortably.

Custom Maps:

The custom maps we use are not good. These maps are breaking vanilla. Especially GOB-RATS. If vanilla break is not important, we can load many maps, especially Tripoli ( Dust 2 in CounterStrike ).

--> true, but doesn't it add a bit of realism? It's also part of the Classic stuff were are trying to achieve on the JFF server

--> only because YOU are experiencing this, it does not automatically mean that everyone who joins the server thinks the same way or experiences the same. That's why I continously say: wait and see what other people think. So far I have not encountered any other person who complained about FPS drop. And again: we can't please everyone. In my opinion, anything above 60 is good. Turn on 'Sync every frame' if you want to make it buttersmooth.

--> "Are not good"..., give me a reason, this is going nowhere. As said in my first post on the COD2 revival project, we are trying to make this a classic COD2 server "with some small adjustments to make it more fun", that's done by adding just 3 custom maps.

I appreciate your concern and all that stuff, but given you've only been a member for 1 week, you should be a bit more aware of what the JFF COD2 stands for, the whole point of this project is not to make this an extremely modded server, but to give people a Classic COD2 server that is FULL. This requires work and play-time, to get the server up in the ranks were it is supposed to be. If you look at gametracker, we achieved quite a bit already, hopefully busting past rank 100 tomorrow.

Rank is for number of players only. Half of the players are team mates and some of them are old players. Because of this reason the rank is rising. It's not because your settings are good. You will understand that one day.

Yes, so you have just repeated what I said in the first COD Revival Project 2.0 post:

The server changes are there to make it more fun and interesting, but to get the server really growing, we just need to PLAY, that's right, PLAY!

Of course it's the amount of players that make it grow, I have no idea why you think I don't understand that. As soon as we hear a lot of people complain about a server setting or maps, we can draw conclusions. But for now, we need to give it time. At least people seem to enjoy the server, since they are sticking around every night.

Who will complain? We do not have a permanent player. There is only one ashley. She was playing at 80 fps while playing in the old settings. A member wrote a complaint here. There can not be a precious complaint from this.

Just my 2p's worth. I have not seen or experienced any problems with CoD2, graphical or audio wise.
Custom maps are not a problem as they downloaded in 3 secs (unlike when CoD2 first came out and it was 10 kb/s and took half an hour!) and play no problem.

wow a server with cod 2 shit i rember me playing Cod 2 with my grandpa actually when i was like 7 years old damm nostalgia is real xD

We have passed rank 100 on GameTracker, now on rank 94 with a steady increase! I have seen many new players and some old players so far. Surprisingly also a lot of people who found the server via the internal server browser, so I guess a good thing we have made our server name properly visible there!

Good job so far, but remember: this is just the start. We need to keep playing! Hope to see many of you guys tonight for another COD2 night to give it yet another boost. I'd say, next goal: passed rank 50!! Thanks to everyone for playing so far!
