Call of Duty 2 Revival Project 2.0 #MakeJFFCoD2GreatAgain

Dear JFF community, dear CoD2 Fans!

With Call of Duty WWII around the corner, we see yet another sequel in the Call of Duty series. But if there's one CoD installment that, dispite its age, will always crush those fancy ass sequels, it is:
Call of Duty 2!

Now, back to business: all of us have noticed that the CoD2 server of JFF has pretty much died out. The server was doing very well in 2011/2012, but after that it slowly went down. There have been multiple attempts to bring the server back to life, none of them worked. I have been a member since 2011, and have seen it all happening. I know what the server was like back then, and what the server looks like today. What it looks like today sucks, so it's time to bring this server back to LIFE.

How are we going to do this? I have proposed serveral points to the admin team and to @Thunder about what should be changed on the server to allow more players back in. The main aim is to kind of bring it back to the state of 2011/2012, a true, classic Call of Duty 2 server. We all know the fancy ass servers with mods and what not, but we can be unique by providing a classic server, with some small adjustments to make it more fun.

I'm personally not sure how many of the points I raised will be implemented, so I will not go too much into detail, but the goal is to make a big change now that will be fruitful for the future, not just for the short-term. Think about:
  • Shorter rounds (quicker gameplay)
  • Variety in maps & map modes, including TDM/DM/CTF (to prevent it from going boring)
  • A few great custom maps
  • Effects & sounds back in the maps like the good ol' days
So far for the server changes. Again: more points are raised, but these are the most important ones. It is up to the admins and Thunder what will change exactly, I will keep you updated on that.

Now for getting people back to the server. I can't do this alone, nor can @Skipper @Smokva and @SuArEz do that. We need help from the ENTIRE COMMUNITY to get this server back to its original state. Go download Call of Duty 2. --> ' but I don't have CoD 2 :(' --> come on, you know where to get it, use your 100% discount skills! Next thing to do is: PLAY!

I will probably make another separate post about this once server changes have been implemented, but for now the plan is to organize 3 COD2 NIGHTS PER WEEK. That is: three, fixed times in the week where we need to try to get the server as full as possible for at least one hour that night. The hope is that people will stick around after that, and join in earlier as well. This requires YOUR help!

For now, and from here on, the following nights will be marked as COD2 NIGHTS:
  • Monday (18:00-19:00 GMT)
  • Thursday (18:00-19:00 GMT)
  • Saturday (18:00-19:00 GMT)
To ALL JFF MEMBERS and ALL COD2 FANS: MAKE SURE YOU JOIN IN DURING THESE TIME SLOTS! It doesn't matter if you cannot join all nights, it's not what we expect from you. As long as you know there IS a CoD2 night, and if you are free: JOIN THE FUN! The goal is to have at least 6 JFF members during these time slots. With 2 random players we already have 8 people to kickstart the evening.

I will personally try my best to join in whenever I can. But again, I can't do this alone, so please, help the CoD2 section!! The server changes are there to make it more fun and interesting, but to get the server really growing, we just need to PLAY, that's right, PLAY!

I picked fixed time slots on purpose. Since this is a European server, and the server is usually most busy around this time slot, it's best to make use of that as much as we can. I don't expect this server to be full 24/7, but as a first step, let's make sure that TOGETHER we can get this server full in the evening!

So:
  • Print these COD2 nights in your memory!
  • Invite other members to join the COD2 night by notifying them via the addon
  • JOIN and HAVE FUN!
  • Let's work together to get this server to #1 on GameTracker!
More updates soon. Feel free to ask questions or comment!

First COD2 night tomorrow, I'll be there with some friends. Feel free to invite friends as well, but above all, IF YOU ARE A JFF MEMBER, TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY AND JOIN!

Today was the first COD2 night and it was a success! We had 9 players including Ardens, Guarnere, Blade and Suarez.
Let's continue and keep up the good work. COD2 will come alive again :D

That's right! We could use more members from other sections though, tonight only 1. There are many more JFF members. Hope to see you guys on Thursday!

Up to 10 people on first trial. Not enough but we should be thankful.

Sometimes there is a crash on the server. When the last settings are made, will you fix it?

Dont get too excited. Building playerbase is slow process and it will take some time. We will have to do this for months. When there will be 10 non JFF players on server, then you can say that we're getting somewhere.

Absolutely agree with Blade, this will take time. Some days will be better than others. Some days some of the COD2 staff may not be able to join, other days we can all join. I'm glad this was a relatively good start, but we need to hold on now, for as long as we can. In the mean time, we might welcome some new members to the CoD2 section, so please, KEEP PLAYING!

Server changes will probably appear soon. I have reported that the server gets stuck sometime after the map has finished and when it's showing the scores, this will hopefully be fixed when all changes have been implemented. In the mean time, contact an admin when you see this, they are able to reset the server (I'm not).

Server crashes should be fixed now.

Map rotation edited to include Gob Rats and Pavlov's house too.

I do not think we should use big maps and custom maps while in the revival project. By using favorite maps, we can increase the number of players. "Toujane, Burgundy, Carentan, Matmata, Dawnville"

Don't worry, I'll post the full rotation here soon. It includes a lot of favorite maps (some twice), a few custom maps (just 3 in a rotation of 18 maps), and the rounds are faster now. Standby...
