Effects & Sounds in Maps

Would you rather create an idea than an opposition? There is already a cod2 server in JFF. You do not have to open a new server. You can apply any of the ideas I have written to this thread on this server.

I agree that Cod2 is not a game that is as active as Cod4. But there is a considerable amount of player playing Cod2.

For start we could just make fixed rotation with 7-8 favourite maps all tdm because of low player number (toujane, burgundy, carentan, dawnville, matmata, some custom map, etc).
If noone is on server then noone will join so the most important thing is activity on server. Because of this we need a few people to spend at least an hour on server at evenings. Every day is maybe too much but we can make it a 2-3 days in a week.
Example: friday, sunday, at 21:00 server time, at least 3-4 JFFs and others that want to help, for one hour minimum
This would be a good start for players to notice our server

Exactly, opening new servers is not a good idea and way too costly of course. What I propose:

  • Default all server settings to get sounds and effects back in maps where they belong, to create the classic COD2 multiplayer feeling --> it's what makes the JFF server unique
  • A new rotation with quick rounds, not too long. Speed is the key, otherwise it gets boring with few players too quickly
  • TDM, DM and CTF maps. I personally really miss CTF now, it can make the game more interesting. The TDM/DM rotation clearly didn't work out.
  • We need to rethink the voting system. Either vote for a map, then vote for game mode or get rid of it entirely to speed up map changes. In that way we can have quick map changes, and a great variety of maps and game modes to keep it interesting.
  • If possible, investigate through gametracker to see at which days most people play COD2 (on whichever server). Based on that, pick 2/3 days of the week which we can mark COD2 nights, so that JFF members can try to be online that night for at least 1 hour.
  • Add a custom map or two. We already have Chelm, GoB Rats would be nice too (version 2 with panzerschrecks for extra fun :p ), or Pavlov (also a classic map).
  • Change server name according to changes we made

You can open new servers without paying fees. Thunder, may be using a dedicated server. If there is space available, it can open the 2nd or 3rd server.

Yes he probably can but we should focus on this existing server now. There were ideas like this in the past for this existing server and none of them was success as you can see. Trying to make 2 or more cod2 servers alive is impossible right now

It can be tried. If we can be active in groups, we can do it. The active server can be CTF-HQ-DOM. If a new server is opened, it can be Botzombie.

=[JFF]= BotZombie #Cod2
=[JFF]= Rotu Zombie #Cod4
=[JFF]= Zombies #Cod5

Any attempt to revive the cod2 section back to a thriving state I'm for. However, a combined effort from the majority of the community is needed. There is plenty of room for server change and experimentation due to its current state but we need a steady stream of players for it to properly grow.

This can definitely be discussed in the next Admin Meeting and we can agree on and implement a plan from that point forward. @Guarnere, If you would like to make a detailed list of changes or suggestions in addition to the ones you posted above, just shoot me a PM with everything so we can get the ball rolling.

@SuArEz, Let's see how far we can get with reviving server #1 and then we can think about adding more servers to our fleet. :)

Since I am playing COD2 on the JFF servers for many years, I really want to put in some effort to make the server more interesting. The JFF servers are unique and we have the potential to be somewhere in top of the rankings.
A few years ago, when I still was a JFF member, we had some custom maps within the rotation. This resulted in many players, so on that point I really agree with @Guarnere. I definately want to join the project to revive the COD2 server.
